Reports had alleged that the actress passed away on Tuesday evening, shortly after speaking with some colleagues on the phone and posting "Ogo Tuntun" (meaning New Glory) on her WhatsApp status at about 7:23 p.m.
The reports also linked her death to breast cancer, nearly two years after she publicly appealed for financial assistance to undergo surgery and treatment.
However, in an official statement shared on Osoba's verified Instagram page on Thursday, her family described the claims as false and misleading.
"We are deeply saddened by the spread of false and unverified reports concerning the passing of our beloved."
The family stressed that the numerous claims circulating on social media and blogs about the cause of her death were inaccurate.
"At this difficult time, we wish to categorically state that the numerous claims circulating on social media and various blogs regarding the circumstances surrounding her death are false, speculative, and entirely unauthorized."
While the family did not disclose the actual cause of the actress' death, they appealed to the public to stop spreading unverified information.
"We urge the public to refrain from sharing or promoting misinformation that only adds to the pain our family is already enduring."
They added that further information regarding her passing would be released through her official social media page.
